3rd Sector Governance:
Developing governance structures and practice is often considered a low priority for third sector organisations, yet numerous reports and pieces of research have identified robust corporate governance as a crucial factor in both success and assurance. Weaknesses in governance are often detected by senior managers, who have no mandate to make changes. As an independent I am able to challenge board members and senior managers on their arrangements and to make difficult observations about current practices. This then leads to planning and implementing change. Over my career I have Chaired five 3rd Sector organisations, reported to boards at Director and Chief Executive level and been a board member of numerous voluntary organisations. Governance is also a special interest for me and I have a practical, working knowledge of setting up good quality, effective and efficient governance structures.
